Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) recently launched the nationwide fibre opticNational Backbone Network (NBN), the backbone transmission network is based on DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology.
SLT partnered with Huawei to build the NBN and is expected to cover all the 329 Divisional Secretariat areas within 5 years.

Etisalat to consider selling Sri Lanka unit to Airtel
Etisalat is in talks with Bharati Airtel to sell it's Sri Lankan mobile phone operations unit. Etisalat bought Sri Lankan Cellular Mobile operator Tigo (formerly known as Celltel) in 2010.
Etisalat is the third largest mobile operator in Sri Lanka with a 21 percent share after Dialog and Mobitel. There are 5 mobile telcos in Sri Lanka, Airtel was the last to start operations and has a market share of 8%.
