Sri Lanka to have a common user telecom backbone company

The Finance Minister has proposed in his budget speech to create a state company to takeover telecom backbone networks currently operated by telecom companies. Fibre Optic backbone networks owned by telco firms and institutions such as Ceylon Electricity Board, Sri Lanka Railways and Road Development Authority will be brought in to this company. This company will operate under the Information Communication and Technology Agency (ICTA).
